CHALLENGE
We grow when we face challenges."
Mamta is a class II student at nai Disha.
She stays with 5 other family members in a 100 sq ft room in a slum.
At Nai Disha we are ever ready to face and deal with the numerous challenges which come our way on a daily basis.
First and foremost, we face a huge shortage of space to run all our programs and activities smoothly and successfully. At present we are operating from a rented premise, running our programs in different shifts to accommodate our large numbers. Huge fixed costs were incurred to create the right infrastructure and the large monthly rent makes a huge dent in our limited finances too. Due to space constraints we are unable to create an activity center, library or any sports facilities for our children.
To impart quality education, we run various programs which need trained and qualified staff, resources and updated learning aids. Due to our limited resources and paucity of funds we are unable to do justice to our vision.
Moreover to seek admission in a class (Government School/ MCD School) is beyond many. Few who are committed, focused, hardworking, comfortable with basic amenities are ones to sail through. But very few get into certified courses. Due to a huge gap between their reality and aspirations, there are feelings disappointments and further discontent. Job assurances are too few and this often leads to older kids or family members further dissuading children from joining any classes.
There is a lot of angst and explainable anger inside these children. No one is around to channelize their energy in the right manner. They are stressed to do what their parents / teachers want.
They are burdened with house work, abused - both emotionally and physically (by an alcoholic father or a young mother who's husband left them).
Through education and activities, Nai Disha provides nurturing. What the child wants is someone who listens and understands his/her thoughts. Nai Disha has created a family beyond his family where the child is made to feel wanted. He/she is mentored, guided, respecting his/her choices and identifying his/her potential.
